Foxfire On-site Policies

The following policies and procedures will keep humans and horses safe, and our programs running as smoothly as possible.  This list is for general policies, expectations and procedures. Please see the Daily Responsibilities page for feeding, chore, and barn care procedures.

  • Each youth participant, adult volunteer, and any visitor that plans to handle a horse in any way must have a signed waiver on file before beginning any activity or visit.  You may print the waiver here: Foxfire Eventing Waiver of Liability.  Hard copies are available in the barn.
  • Any accident or injury to a person or horse must be reported immediately to Olivia Exum, Mary Beth Grier, Cindy Dale, or CJ Weldon. An accident report must be filled out.  These are also available here: Accident Report, and in hard copy in the barn, and should be left in the relevant day’s page in the Foxfire Barn Book.
  • NO smoking allowed in or near the barns at any time.
  • Vaccinated dogs may visit, but will not be allowed off leashes, and remain the responsibility of the owners at all times.
  • The speed limit on the property is 5-10MPH for the safety of horses and humans.
  • All visitors/family members accompanying riders during activities must remain quiet and well-behaved while on the premises.
  • Children who are not members of the Youth Riding Team must be supervised by an adult or Youth Riding Team member at all times.
  • All horse owners, trainers, instructors, students, volunteers, and guests are required to wear ASTM/SEI approved helmets when mounted on horses (NO EXCEPTIONS) for pleasure and instruction.
  • Long pants and riding boots with a heel must be worn for riding.
  • No riding inside barns or under roofed structures (until we get an indoor arena someday).
  • Please help keep our facility tidy. Clean up after horses and yourself, and whenever necessary, clean up miscellaneous items, even if they are not yours. There are trash containers, brooms, dust pans and muck buckets available in the aisle, breezeways, wash stalls and cross-tie areas for the disposal of manure, clipped/excess hair, hoof cleanings, and general refuse. Please replace tools when finished.
  • Special grains, supplements and/or medications supplied by sponsors or owner should be given to Olivia, Mary Beth, or Cindy, along with clear instructions for administration.  If you are changing any of these items, please be sure to communicate the info directly.
  • Please do NOT feed Foxfire grain as a treat to any horse.  This impacts the availability of grain for regular feedings, and our distributor only orders enough for our regular requirements.
  • If you believe a horse’s grain ration or combination should be altered, please speak with Olivia, Mary Beth, or Cindy.
  • Please turn off the lights in the arena, bathroom, feed room, and barn if you are the last to leave each space.
  • Outside guests may not ride any horses without prior permission from Olivia, Mary Beth, or Cindy.  Liability waiver must be filled out before handling any horse.
  • Horses will be turned out in specific turnout areas only.
  • No horses are to be turned out or free-lunged in the jump arena.
  • Please do not leave a horse unattended in any area other than his/her own stall or paddock.  If you use a stall to tack or wait, please clean it thoroughly as soon as you are finished with it.
  • We must all be considerate of others and operate with common sense and courtesy at all times. Please keep eyes peeled for safety risks, and take initiative to make adjustments and repairs whenever possible.
